The Senior Project Manager role at WGI is responsible for developing relationships, proposals and business in the Public Works Sector and leading Project Managers and Project Designers in the preparation and coordination of engineering design documents. The primary role of the Senior Project Manager is to grow and lead the team of engineers, designers and support staff associated with building a Public Works practice in the geographic area designated. 

The Senior Project Manager of Public Infrastructure is the champion for municipal and public clients within WGI; leading the internal team and building themselves as an expert in the municipal engineering field. This leader directs a team within a local office, serving a defined clientele focused on municipal and public clients within a specific geographic region and can build a team as necessary to serve those clients within that market. The Senior Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of the operation including winning work, recruiting and developing team members, completing an excellent work product and meeting financial and team member growth targets. This role allows the freedom for a leader to build a team that can be accountable to the excellence, growth and stability expectations of WGI. Senior Project Managers work with the Discipline Director to have the resources, staff and technological tools necessary to accomplish their agreed upon business goals.


  • Regularly market services to current and prospective clients to ensure a growing practice in the specific area of expertise
  • Develop and maintain an organizational structure that maximizes efficiency across the sector organization and develop career paths for personnel
  • Recommend or direct disciplinary action or termination of employees
  • Ensure the market, as a whole, is responsive and communicates effectively
  • Act as liaison for all client feedback; relay praise or provide corrective measures to team based on client feedback          
    • Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and get approvals from the Director                                                         
    • Ensure that every project has a signed contract to establish a baseline for client billing and project scope
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures
  • Monitor and assist the team in meeting all financial goals as well as to ensure the upcoming pipeline of work is adequate to meet company goals and growth
  • Recruit team members, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of team member competence
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules and processes, and making decisions regarding the purchase of materials or services with the direct involvement of the Discipline Director
  • Combine, review and check all multidiscipline proposals that are issued to clients to ensure accuracy and estimating consistency
  • Coordinate and mentor Team Leaders to provide quality projects that ensure client satisfaction
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering/technical work performed in the market sector in all offices utilizing company-wide standards for QA/QC and project completion


  • Current relationships with perspective local municipal clients are preferred
  • Expansive relationships with
    • potential consultants that our team can be a sub-consultant to
    • sub-consultants who can provide WGI with services
  • Understanding of the contracting requirements and expectations of the local and surrounding municipalities and public entities
  • Experience with cost estimating tools is essential for planning and design phases
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent planning software is required for planning and proposal phases
  • Construction oversight and construction management experience is a plus
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and guidance and keep their team productive and progressing
  • Organized, with the ability to multi-task and work on concurrent projects while effectively communicating with internal and external team members
  • Task leadership and project management experience is required


  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering
  • 10+ years of engineering experience
  • Must have Professional Engineer (PE) license
