We are seeking a Sr. Project Manager to join our Planning Division in the Austin, TX office.

 

This position oversees specialized planning functions such as large-scale development proposals, municipal deliverables, RFPs and provides overall management of division-related and multidisciplinary planning issues. Supervises and participates in highly-complex professional planning activities and conducts business development.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews master plans and site plans for compliance with land development regulations;
  • Provide professional planning advice and interpretation on matters related to various policy documents, and gives direction relating to various policy projects;
  • Perform and manage professional planning projects, studies, research, and analysis including long range plans, community redevelopment plans, sub-area/corridor plans, land use policy, comprehensive planning, park and recreation master plans, and school master plans;
  • Thoroughly reviews all documents for submittal, including technical documents such as due diligence reports and justification statements;
  • Create and maintain project schedules, from due diligence through entitlements and permitting;
  • Manage a multidisciplinary project team, maintaining schedules and tracking progress;
  • Serves as liaison and performs all necessary functions in support of public hearings;
  • Prepare and presents detailed written reports and implementation documents for consideration by public agencies on policy matters, special projects, and other planning matters;
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws as they relate to planning services;
  • Representation of projects before client, local government staff, zoning boards, citizen groups, and elected bodies, including evenings and weekends as needed;
  • Organize community outreach meetings, stakeholder interviews, innovative public engagement techniques, and design charrettes;
  • Preparation of project scope and budget, and responses to Request for Proposal and/or Qualifications;
  • Financial management of projects including budgets, invoicing, collections, and utilization;
  • Assist in developing a plan to expand local municipal, county and state relationships, and assist in expanding connections;
  • Assist in developing an multi-divisional government affairs strategy for long-term engagement with municipal leaders and political voices;
  • Assist in developing and managing single family, master plan, and horizontal land development clients in coordination with PLACE business development leaders;
  • Work independently and as part of a close-knit team; and
  • Report directly to the department’s

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in planning or a closely related field
  • 8-15 years of experience in the planning profession
  • Must be innovative, detail-oriented, experienced in highly visible/controversial projects;
  • Capable of managing multiple, high-priority assignments;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to resolve complaints;
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply mathematic techniques in practical situations;
  • Reading comprehension to understand technical and legal materials;
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office and Photoshop;
  • Travel to other office locations may be required;
  • Excellent written and presentation skills for effective technical report preparation and presentation;
  • Proficient in research methods and statistical principles related to urban growth and development;
