Overview

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Construction Manager with 5+ years of professional experience to be part of our Civil Engineering team at our Austin, TX office.

 

The Construction Manager is the leader of an engineering team, specializing in the support of WGI’s design teams (led by other Project Managers) for projects in the construction phase. The Construction Manager is responsible for leading a team to address construction issues, correspondence, and field visits while managing budgets and meeting financial targets for construction-related contract phases. This role includes accountability for corresponding with the Project Manager(s) and Market Leader(s) to obtain the resources needed to execute projects successfully and create raving fans out of clients. This position requires the greatest level of communication and accuracy and is key to obtaining referrals and repeat business from our clients.

Responsibilities

 

Expertise

  • Leader of a construction administration team across a spectrum of projects in the Civil Engineering market for the specified geographical area (including private land development, public infrastructure improvements, public-private partnerships, CMR, design-build, etc.)
  • Direct responsibility for projects in the construction phase, including oversight of construction administration tasks (submittal review, plan clarification, RFI response, change orders, pay apps, closeout documentation and record drawing maintenance, etc.), representation of WGI at OAC meetings and in written/oral communication with the client, city, and contractor teams, seamless interface with WGI’s design teams, and financial oversight of WGI’s construction support budgets.
  • Works to educate and build personal and knowledge of market sector specifics.
  • Become an expert and trusted resource to our clients at the project level.
  • Prepare task-specific proposals, collaborating with the Project Manager, for Market Leader or Director final approval, for construction support services.
  • As a project leader within their market and project type, the Construction Manager becomes a recognized expert to their clients

Communication

  • Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence within their project team.
  • Communicate with their own team members, WGI design team(s), co-consultants, inspectors and staff from the overseeing municipal agencies, and clients in an exceptional manner including the issue of project status updates (written or oral, in OAC meetings and to WGI design teams, as appropriate and required).
  • Perform functions such as reviewing and writing reports, monitoring project budgets and deliverables, and preparing workload projections and other activities that ensure the team is maximally efficient and profitable.

 

Accuracy

  • Execute performance of project requirements to ensure contractual obligations are met
  • Coordinate and direct the construction phases of projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration and documentation of technical activities and regulatory requirements
  • Work in close collaboration with WGI design team and co-consultants to track and document revisions to design and construction documents
  • Communicate and adhere to all established company standards and regulatory requirements while executing work, including safety standards and documentation
  • Participate in pre-construction (pre-permit) services in collaboration with WGI design team(s), including constructability review, project kickoff meetings, and early client/contractor meetings to prepare for post-permit/pre-construction process
  • Quality review project deliverables (revised construction/permit documents, city/client/contractor forms and documentation, engineer’s concurrence documentation, closeout documents) to ensure client satisfaction and to avoid errors and omissions

Transparency

  • Perform as manager of construction-related portions of many projects (including financial and resource management and tracking)
  • Review invoice drafts and markup to ensure billing matches effort of the team
  • Provide updated billing projections monthly to accurately illustrate upcoming team efforts and project deliverables for maximum team efficiency and profitability

Qualifications

  • Must be innovative, detail-oriented, experienced in highly visible roles
  • Capable of managing multiple, high priority assignments
  • Nonnegotiable commitment to safety per the standards of both WGI and the parties in charge at a project site; capable of communicating and teaching safety standards to any team members visiting project sites or performing field work
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships at various levels and to resolve conflicts
  • Ability to work on many projects or issues simultaneously and manage projects effectively and meet deadlines
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required
  • 5+ years of experience in the industry (civil engineering and/or civil construction administration)
  • One to two years of supervisory experience
  • AutoCAD experience preferred, but not required
  • Experience in construction management software (Bluebeam, PlanGrid, Procore, Newforma, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Frequent on-site responsibilities
