In this position you will serve as Senior Projct manager II for WGI’s Raleigh NC office roadway design staff. A strong background in NC roadway design engineering is required as well as understanding of and coordination with multiple other disciplines including roadway drainage, structures, work zone traffic control  and surveys to name a few. The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from many delivery methods including conventional publicly let projects and alternative delivery.

 

The Senior Project Manager II will lead multidisciplinary teams and manage projects with a focus on operational excellence, financial performance, and client satisfaction. This role will have the responsibility for the direction, completion, and financial outcome of projects, serving as the primary liaison between clients, subconsultants, and the project team on the largest and/or multiple projects of the most complex nature.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage a staff of 2 to 6 design engineers and coordinate with various disciplines both internal and external to WGI;
  • Ability to perform all aspects of a transportation role with solid knowledge focused on collaboration, communication, and coordination with management and production staff for:
    • Marketing/Capture planning
    • Proposal management
    • Business plans
    • People/relationship management
    • Client management
    • Project management
    • Financial management
    • Mentoring management
  • Project Management for NCDOT Business Units with a foundation of roadway design experience;
  • Manage/oversight of roadway design plans for traditional design-bid-build and alternative delivery projects that include geometric alignments, profiles, cross sections, and stage construction for traffic management plans;
  • Develop Plans, Specifications & Estimate (PS&E) packages for construction and Division let projects;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with NCDOT Business Units and Division team members in preparing meeting notes,  invoices, and progress reports to support assigned projects;
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative approach that permits effective communication among leadership, management, clients, project managers and staff;
  • Perform quality control reviews and assurance reviews for project deliverables
  • Cross-train and mentor roadway design staff in other related transportation disciplines;
  • A “seller” and/or a “doer” for transportation with a complete understanding of the transportation disciplines to market the services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college, Master's Degree is a strong plus;
  • Demonstrated 20+ years in progressively responsible experience;
  • NC Professional Engineering Registration;
  • Roadway management and design lead experience preferred:
    • Project Management with NCDOT;
    • Project Management with municipalities;
    • Prior supervisory experience leading an engineering team;
    • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or Open Roads;
    • Experience with 3D Corridor Modeling a strong plus;
    • Ability to lead winning project pursuits including letters of interest preparation, presentation development and presentation skills (interviews, question & answer sessions, leading presentations);
    • Prepare contracts, scopes of services, fee estimates (in accordance with NCDOT standard practices and requirements);
    • Ability/desire to lead a team of engineers and collaborate with marketing staff to pursue, win, and design transportation related projects;
    • Ability to work independently and on large multi-discipline teams;
    • Microsoft office skills – including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills;
    • Travel to other office locations may be required.
